Ingredients
  1. 1/2 cup shortening
  2. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  3. 1/2 cup syrup or molasses
  4. 1/2 cup buttermilk
  5. 1/2 tsp vinegar
  6. 3 1/2 cups flour
  7. 1 tsp soda
  8. 1/2 tsp salt
  9. 2 tsp cinnamon
  10. 1 tsp ginger
Instructions
  1. Cream shortening and add sugar gradually.
  2. Add syrup, vinegar.
  3. Sift together dry ingredients and 1 1/2 cups flour
  4. Mix well.
  5. Add remaining flour alternately with buttermilk.
  6. Chill dough.
  7. Roll to ΒΌ thick.
  8. Dip cutter in flour.
  9. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 375F for 15 minutes.
  10. Remove to rack and cool.

  1. 1/3 cup chocolate chips
Orange Drops
  1. 2 tsp grated orange rind
  2. 2 tsp orange juice
  3. 1/3 cup shredded coconut
Fruit Drops
  1. 1/3 glace cherries
  2. 1/3 cup chopped nuts
  3. 1/3 cup raisins.
Instructions
  1. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, beating between additions.
  2. Add eggs and mix well.
  3. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with liquid to the mixture.
  4. Add vanilla.
  5. Divide the mixture into three parts.
  6. To one part add Choc drops.
  7. To second, add Orange drops.
  8. To third add Fruit drops.
  9. Drop dough by spoon on greased cookie sheet 1 1/2 inches apart.
  10. Bake 12 min at 375F.
