Ingredients
  1. 1 3/4 cups rolled oats
  2. 1 1/2 cups flour
  3. 3/4 cup butter
  4. 1/4 tsp soda
  5. 1 cup brown sugar
Filling
  1. 2 cups dates
  2. 1/2 cup sugar
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
  1. Combine ingredients for filling.
  2. Simmer until thick.
  3. Cool.
  4. Sift soda with flour.
  5. Combine flour, brown sugar and oats.
  6. Work in butter.
  7. Pat 1/2 mixture in 9x9 greased pan.
  8. Spread date filling over oat mixture.
  9. Pat the other 1/2 of oat mixture on top.
  10. Bake at 375F for 45 minutes.
  11. Cut into squares when cool.
